Underberg lies just beneath the majestic mountains of southern Drakensberg and offers a variety of hiking trails and experiences of breathtaking beauty. The area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, whether you're here to hike, to enjoy the abundant bird life or to take part in some of the many adventures offered.

In this part of Africa, there are a lots of walking and hiking trails. The biggest attraction in Underberg, and in the small neighbouring town of Himeville, is fly fishing. There are more fishing opportunities here than anywhere else in South Africa and the Underberg-Himeville Trout Fishing Club holds fishing rights to over 160 km of the nearby rivers and all of 60 dams. It is, in other words, a paradise for fishing enthusiasts!

Underberg is a small town in an agricultural area. Despite this, Underberg has grown in recent decades and there are big investments towards tourism, which has become the town's second biggest industry after agriculture.

It's almost a must to go up along Sani Pass which is one of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa. The narrow serpentine road winds its way up the mountain and connects South Africa with Lesotho. The road is also known as Roof of Africa and for good reason – the view from the top is spectacular. However, you will need a 4x4 vehicle to go up, but if you do not have one there are guided tours.
