St Francis Bay

- A true gem -
Dela på Facebook Dela på Twitter

South of Jeffreys Bay lies the small town of St Francis Bay. This is a gem that is often overlooked and here you can enjoy wonderful beaches, breathtaking scenery and a variety of activities.

St Francis Bay is sometimes called the Venice of South Africa, as it has a channel system where you can go boating, swimming and enjoy various water sports. Along the water lovely white thatched houses line up.

In the bay, which is also named St Francis Bay, are dolphins and, in season, even whales. The beaches are long, white and invites to lazy days in the sun. You can also fish off the rocks and if you surf you've come to the right place. This area competes with Jeffreys Bay for first place on the list of South Africa's best surf spot! There is also the very nice golf course, St Francis Links.

It can sometimes be a bit complicated to keep track of what part of this area you are in. In addition to St. Francis Bay, there are also Port St Francis and Cape St Francis. Cape St Francis is situated at the tip of the cape, about 10 minutes by car from St Francis Bay. Here you can visit the penguins at Cape St Francis Rehabilitation Centre.

Port St Francis is a private harbour, midway between Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay. Here there are a variety of restaurants and factory outlets along with private homes and holiday accommodation.

The area has no less than four nature reserves – Cape St Francis Nature Reserve, Seal Point Nature Reserve, Seal Bay Nature Reserve and Irma Booysen Flora Reserve. All of these reserves offer opportunities for very nice hikes where you can really get close to the special nature.
