Swellendam is situated at the foot of the beautiful Langeberg Mountains about 220 km east of Cape Town and as many km west of George and it's said that the city connects Overberg with the Garden Route. Swellendam is, after Cape Town and Stellenbosch, South Africa's third oldest city founded in 1745, and this is evident in the city's architecture and rich history.

The area is perfect for those who like to hike and Swellendam is surrounded by no less than four nature reserves of which Bontebok National Park and Marloth Nature Reserve are the most famous. Bontebok National Park is home to the very beautiful but unusual antelope species the bontebok which also gave its name to the reserve.

Here you can also find 126 different species of birds and a variety of smaller antelope. If you want to go hiking Marloth Nature Reserve is a good option. There are many hiking trails and you have the chance to see such a wide variety of species of wild flowers and fynbos.

Swellendam is a flourishing agricultural town and is the world's largest producer of boysenberry. If you visit Swellendam, why don't you visit Wildebraam Berry Estate that not only produces jams and marmalades of various kinds, but also a variety of liqueurs and much more.
