Orange River

- A long wine tradition -

Along the Orange River is South Africa's fourth largest wine region with big wineries that produce mostly white wine, although red wines are coming more and more. In this area the wine farms use a type of lattice to cover the vines that creates different microclimates and allows the grapes mature away from the direct sunlight that would otherwise make them shrivel up.

In this area are Chenin Blanc, Chardonay, Pinotage, Shiraz, Merlot, Muscadel (red and white) and Muscat d'Alexandrie, or Hanepoot as it is known in South Africa, produced.
